The Importance of Discipline

The word disciple comes from the same root word that discipline comes from.  If we are going to be true disciples of Christ, we must learn discipline-bring our flesh under subjection.  2 Corinthians 7:1 says, "Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God."  This means we can't sit back and expect the Holy Ghost to do it all;  we must cleanse ourselves and make ourselves presentable to the Bridegroom.  How do I work on cleansing or subjecting my flesh to the spirit?  Prayer, fasting, study of the Word, and faithfulness to His house of worship are many wonderful ways we can more effectively cleanse ourselves and exercise control over our desires, thoughts, emotions, and behavior; then the Holy Ghost and work in us without interference. I want to be used of God in these last days.  To see that happen, I must be "Christ-like" in all my ways.  Help me Lord!
